Free chess tournament software for clubs and organizers

ChessLivo is free chess tournament software for clubs, school teams and anyone who runs a tournament. Pair round robin and Swiss events by the FIDE rules, enter the results, and the standings, crosstable and ratings follow, in English, German, Spanish, Russian or Turkish, in any browser.

Run a chess tournament online in any format

  • Round robin (Berger tables): 3 to 16 players meet each other once or twice. Every round is paired at once.
  • Swiss (FIDE Dutch system): 4 to 200 players and 3 to 15 rounds, each round paired on the scores so far.
  • Team round robin: 3 to 16 teams, 2 to 10 boards per match and a lineup for every round.
  • Team Swiss: 4 to 100 teams, paired round by round.
  • Ad-hoc tournaments: no club needed. Type the players’ names and start; these tournaments are unrated.

A club tournament is played by your club’s players. Once it is finalized, it updates their club ratings in its time control: standard, rapid or blitz.

A chess pairing program that follows the FIDE rules

  • Swiss: the FIDE Dutch system (Handbook C.04.3), the most widely used Swiss system. Every round of an individual Swiss is also checked against the FIDE pairing rules, and the organizers see any warning before they publish it. How Swiss pairing works.
  • Round robin: the FIDE Berger tables (C.05 Annex 1), with a drawing of lots or your own starting order. Round robin tables and a free generator.
  • Team Swiss: the FIDE Swiss Team Pairing System (C.04.6). Team round robins use the Berger tables.
  • Tie-breaks: FIDE C.07, such as Buchholz, Sonneborn-Berger and direct encounter, in the order you choose.

You stay in charge: an individual Swiss round can be paired again, or edited by hand with a warning for every rule a change breaks; a team Swiss round can be paired again.

Tie-breaks and ratings, explained

Everything a chess tournament manager needs

  • Standings with FIDE tie-breaks

Points first, then the tie-breaks you choose from FIDE C.07, updated with every result.

  • Crosstables

A crosstable for every tournament, of players or of teams.

  • Club ratings with the FIDE formula

Each finalized club tournament updates its players’ ratings with the FIDE rating formula (B.02), separately for standard, rapid and blitz.

  • Public tournament pages

Your club, its tournaments and every round get a page that players and spectators can open on a phone, and so does each club player who is not anonymized. Ad-hoc tournaments appear only if you make them public; a private club stays private.

  • Printable rounds and standings

Pairings, standings and crosstables print as clean tables for the noticeboard.

  • TRF-2026 export

Download any tournament as a TRF-2026 file, the FIDE tournament report format.

  • Co-organizers

Invite admins and arbiters: arbiters pair rounds and enter results, admins run whole tournaments.

  • English, German, Spanish, Russian and Turkish

Every page, for you and for your players, in English, German, Spanish, Russian or Turkish.

Start in three steps

  1. Get an account. Create a free account and confirm your email address.
  2. Create your club and add its players. Players need no account: you enter their names, nicknames and starting ratings. No club? Start an ad-hoc tournament with typed names.
  3. Create a tournament and pair it. Choose the format, add the players, pair the first round or the whole schedule, publish it and enter the results.

The getting started guide walks you through it, and the help guides cover every other step.

Broadcast your tournament live

Playing over the board with electronic boards, a PGN file or a live page? Create a broadcast, plan its rounds and send the games with a push key, a file upload or a public link: viewers follow every board live with the engine, and you can add a delay.

Questions about running a tournament on ChessLivo

Is ChessLivo free?
Yes. Clubs, tournaments, pairings, public pages, ratings and the TRF export cost nothing, and there is nothing to install: it runs in your browser.
Do I need an account?
You need a free account to run tournaments; your players do not. Create it with your email address and confirm it from the email we send you.
What happens to my players’ data?
In a club tournament the players are your club’s players. They have no account: the club’s owner and admins enter their names, a nickname and their ratings. Public pages show the nickname; full names appear only if the owner turns them on with the players’ consent, and only the owner can anonymize a player. A club can also be private. In an ad-hoc tournament you type the names: they appear as you typed them, and only to you unless you make the tournament public. The privacy notice explains the rest.
Does ChessLivo follow the FIDE rules?
For pairings and tie-breaks, yes: Swiss rounds follow the FIDE Dutch system (C.04.3), round robins the Berger tables (C.05 Annex 1), team Swiss events the FIDE Swiss Team Pairing System (C.04.6), and tie-breaks FIDE C.07. Club ratings use the FIDE rating formula (B.02) but stay your club’s own: tournaments on ChessLivo are not FIDE-rated.
Can I export a tournament?
Yes. Owners and admins, and the creator of an ad-hoc tournament, can download any tournament as a TRF-2026 file, the FIDE tournament report format, from its schedule or standings page. Rounds, standings and crosstables also print as plain tables.
