Results, finalizing and ratings

Last updated: 20 October 2026

Enter and correct results, read the standings, finalize a tournament or end a Swiss early, and how group ratings change by the FIDE rating formula.

Entering results

  1. Open a published round: press Boards next to it on the schedule.
  2. Choose each board's result:
    • 1-0, ½-½ or 0-1: the game was played over the board;
    • +/- or -/+: White or Black wins by forfeit;
    • -/-: both lose by forfeit;
    • –: no result yet.
  3. Press Save results.

Only changed boards are saved. If someone else changed one of the boards in the meantime, nothing is saved: the page shows the stored result next to yours, so you can check and save again. The owner, the admins and the arbiters enter results; a change after a board's first result is recorded.

Standings and tie-breaks

  • Standings ranks by points, then by the tournament's tie-breaks in the order of its settings (FIDE C.07). Only decided results count.
  • The Crosstable shows every result by opponent; free rounds, absences and annulled games are listed per row.
  • A Swiss shows both up to its last published round.
  • Default tie-breaks: round robin DE SB WIN KS; Swiss BH-C1 BH SB DE WIN; team tournaments GP EDE EMGSB after match points.
  • Print gives a paper copy without the buttons.

Finalizing

  1. Check that every round is published and every board has a result. The finalize page names a round that is still open.
  2. Open the Finalize tab, or press Finalize… on the schedule.
  3. Enter the End date (today by default), press Finalize and confirm.

The final standings are stored with every tie-break value, a group tournament changes its players' ratings, and the tournament is never reopened. The owner, the admins and the creator of an ad-hoc tournament can finalize.

Ending a Swiss early

A Swiss or team Swiss that stops before its planned rounds:

  1. Open the Finalize tab. It offers End after round for the last complete round.
  2. It lists what happens: the planned rounds become that number; a later round without any result is deleted; requested byes for later rounds are dropped; players who would join later leave; later withdrawals are cancelled.
  3. Press the button and confirm, then finalize.

A round that already has a result has to be completed first.

Corrections

A wrong result can still be corrected after finalizing:

  1. Open the round from the schedule with Boards.
  2. Choose the right result and press Save corrections.

The correction is recorded, the final standings are stored again and, for a group tournament, the ratings of that time control are calculated again from this tournament on. A board of a finalized tournament always keeps a result. The owner, the admins and the creator of an ad-hoc tournament correct results.

Ratings

Each group player has a rating in every time control (Standard, Rapid, Blitz), starting from their initial rating.

  • Only finalized group tournaments change ratings. Ad-hoc tournaments are unrated.
  • The change follows the FIDE rating formula (B.02): K × (score − expected score), rounded once per tournament.
  • Rated games are those played over the board with 1-0, ½-½ or 0-1. Forfeits and byes do not count; played games that a withdrawal annulled still do.
  • The expected score uses each opponent's rating before the tournament; differences above 400 count as 400 for players below 2650.
  • K is 40 until a player has 30 rated games, 10 once they have reached 2400, otherwise 20, and at most 700 divided by their games in the tournament.
  • Tournaments are rated in the order they were finalized in the group. A correction, or an initial rating changed later, calculates the ratings again from the tournament it affects.

These are the group's own ratings; they are not FIDE ratings.

Rating changes

A finalized group tournament has a Rating changes tab: for every player the rating before the tournament (Ro), K, rated games, score, expected score, the change (Δ) and the new rating. In a public group the tournament's public page shows the same table, and each player's public page shows their rating history.
