Manage a group and its players

Last updated: 20 October 2026

Group settings, adding players with nicknames and initial ratings, showing full names with the players' consent, anonymizing a player and deleting a group.

Group settings

The owner and the admins open the group's Settings tab:

  1. Change the Group name or the Short name (URL). A new short name changes the group's web address.
  2. Public group: visitors see the group's page, its published tournaments and its players' nicknames. The pages of a private group are seen only by its members.
  3. Press Save settings.

The owner also finds Transfer ownership and Delete group there. See Transferring ownership and Deleting a group.

Adding players

Players have no account: the group keeps their details.

  1. Open the group's Players tab and press Add player.
  2. Fill in First name, Last name and Nickname.
  3. Enter the Initial ratings for Standard, Rapid and Blitz, between 100 and 3000. Leave a field blank for 1500.
  4. Press Add player.

To change a player later, press Edit in the list, then Save player. The owner and the admins add and edit players; arbiters see the list.

Nicknames

  • A nickname has 3–30 letters, digits, "_" or "-" and is unique on the whole of ChessLivo, not only in your group.
  • Visitors see players by nickname, on the public pages and in the address of each player's page (/p/ followed by the nickname).
  • Nicknames starting with "anon-" are reserved.

Members of the group always see full names. Visitors see only nicknames, unless the owner shows full names to everyone:

  1. Ask every player of the group whether they agree.
  2. As owner, open Settings and tick Show players' full names to everyone.
  3. Tick the confirmation that every player of the group has agreed to show their full name publicly.
  4. Press Save settings. The page shows since when full names are shown.

Untick the box and save to hide them again.

Ratings

  • The Players list shows each player's current Standard, Rapid and Blitz rating.
  • A rating changes only when a group tournament of that time control is finalized, by the FIDE rating formula. See Ratings.
  • The initial rating is the starting point. If you change it after the player has a finalized tournament in that time control, every rating change from that tournament on is calculated again, and the change is recorded.
  • These are the group's own ratings, not FIDE ratings.

Anonymizing a player

For a player who asks to be erased:

  1. As owner, press Anonymize next to the player.
  2. Type the player's nickname to confirm and press Anonymize player.

The first and last name are deleted and the nickname becomes "anon-" followed by a number, everywhere. Results and ratings stay. This cannot be undone.

Deleting a group

  1. As owner, open Settings, press Delete group and confirm with Delete group.
  2. The group disappears from every list and its pages stop answering. The delete page shows the address where you can restore it and how long it is kept.
  3. To undo, open that address before the date shown and press Restore group.

After that date the group's players are anonymized, its members and invitations are removed and it can no longer be restored. Its results and ratings stay.
