Run a round robin tournament
Create a round robin, add the players, draw the starting order, pair every round from the FIDE Berger tables, publish rounds and handle withdrawals.
Settings
- On the group's Tournaments tab press New tournament. For typed names without a group use New ad-hoc tournament on My tournaments.
- Enter the Tournament name and, if you like, the Start date and End date.
- Format: choose Individual round robin. Under Round robin choose Single round robin (everyone meets once) or Double round robin (twice, with colours reversed).
- Choose the Time control: Standard, Rapid or Blitz.
- Tie-breaks (in order): FIDE C.07 codes that separate equal points, in order. The default is DE SB WIN KS: direct encounter, Sonneborn-Berger, number of wins, Koya. Buchholz-type codes are not used in round robins.
- Press Create tournament.
Scoring: a win 1 point, a draw ½, a loss 0; the free round of an odd number of players is worth 0. Everything can change on the Settings tab until the schedule is paired; after that only the name and the dates.
Players
A round robin has 3 to 16 players.
- Group tournament: the roster is the group's players, so add them on the group's Players tab first (see Adding players). Then, on the tournament's Players tab, under Add players from the roster, tick the players and press Add selected. Each is seeded by their current rating in the time control.
- Ad-hoc tournament: under Add a player type the Name and, if known, the Rating, then press Add player.
- Remove takes a player out while the tournament is a draft.
With an odd number of players one player has a free round in each round.
Starting order
The start numbers decide who meets whom in which round, as the Berger tables list them.
- Open the Starting order tab.
- Choose Drawing of lots (random; the drawn order is kept) or My own order and press Save.
- With lots, press Draw lots now to see the order, or Draw again. If you do not draw, lots are drawn when you pair the schedule. Adding or removing a player after a draw needs a new draw.
- With your own order, give every player a position and press Save order.
Pairing
- Open the Schedule tab.
- Press Pair the schedule and confirm. All rounds are paired at once from the FIDE Berger tables (C.05 Annex 1); a double round robin repeats them in a second cycle with colours reversed.
- Pairing freezes the settings, the players and the starting order. The tournament is now running.
Pairing refuses anonymized players, and rating-based tie-breaks while a player is unrated. As long as no result has been entered, Reset to draft at the bottom of the schedule deletes the rounds: the players and the starting order stay, and the settings can change again.

Publishing
A round is seen only by the organizers until it is published.
- On the Schedule tab tick one or more rounds and press Publish selected rounds, or press Publish round on a round's own page.
- A published round takes results, and appears on the public pages of a public group or a public ad-hoc tournament.
Publish rounds when you are ready to announce them; you can publish all of them at once.
Results
- On the Schedule tab press Boards next to a published round.
- Choose each board's result: 1-0, ½-½ or 0-1 for a played game; +/- or -/+ for a win by forfeit; -/- when both lose by forfeit; – while there is no result yet.
- Press Save results. Only changed boards are saved. If someone else changed a board in the meantime, nothing is saved and the page shows which board changed.
Results can be entered in any order. The Standings and the Crosstable count decided results only. More in Entering results.
Withdrawals
FIDE C.05 Art. 6.6 decides what happens when a player leaves:
- Enter every result of the rounds before the one they withdraw from.
- On the Players tab, under Withdraw a player, choose the player and the round in From round, then press Review withdrawal.
- The next page shows how many games they played and which rule applies:
- fewer than half of their games played: those games are annulled (they stay on record but no longer count), each opponent gets a free round worth 0 instead, and the player leaves the standings;
- at least half played: their remaining games are lost by forfeit, and they stay in the standings.
- Press Confirm withdrawal. Their games can no longer be edited.
Played games that a withdrawal annulled still count for the ratings.
Reinstating a player
A withdrawal can be undone while the tournament is running:
- On the Players tab, or under Withdrawn players on the schedule, press Reinstate next to the player.
- The next page lists what goes back: the boards, the opponents' free rounds and the player's absences.
- Press Confirm reinstatement.
If another player withdrew later and is still withdrawn, reinstate that player first. A finalized tournament is never reopened.
Finishing
When every round is published and every board has a result, finalize the tournament: its final standings are stored and, for a group tournament, the players' ratings change. See Finalizing.
